Fairy Tail Endings, Inc. awarded $2,100 Vet Care Grant & $800 Spay/Neuter Grant by BISSELL Pet Foundation

November 28, 2016

BISSELL Pet Foundation is committed to ending pet homelessness and finding a loving home for every pet.   Although adoption programs provide a wonderful service for displaced pets, the most rewarding scenario is finding ways to help
people keep their companions instead of having to relinquish them in the first place.  We receive regular requests and referrals for assistance from numerous animal welfare agencies in our service area to help pet owners avoid surrender. BISSELL Pet Foundation recognizes the critical role safety-net organizations like Fairy Tail Endings play on reducing pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in our community's already overburdened shelters.  For families suffering a temporary hardship, giving up pets burdened by expensive medical issues is too often viewed as their only chance at health, but the adoption statistics for pets with chronic or recurring health issues are grim. Conditions such as heartworm disease,
diabetes or bladder issues (which require strict adherence to prescription diets and medication protocols) are often unmanageable in the typical shelter environment. A grant award of $2,100 was awarded to provide critical veterinary care to approved owners seeking to keep their beloved companions.

Promoting responsible pet ownership through education has always been an important part of our mission. Our goal is to prevent surrender not just delay it. Many pet owners have no idea of the health risks associated with their pet remaining intact. Before we approve veterinary care for an unaltered pet, we talk with their owners about the increased risks of certain types of cancers, pyometra and prostate issues, escape/roaming behaviors that lead to injuries, as well as the impact unplanned litters have on their pet’s health and the overcrowding of shelters in our community. Owners must agree to spay or neuter them as part of our contract for funding other veterinary care services. Once healthy, we refer these pets to several local clinics but sometimes our clients are unable to afford even a low-cost surgery. Being proactive and funding spays and neuters for these at-risk pets protects our investment into their long-term health and keeping unwanted offspring from ending up in shelters...goals we share with the BISSELL Pet Foundation who awarded us $800 for spay/neuter services.

Fairy Tail Endings, Inc. awarded $2,000 Pet Food Grant by RedRover for Food for Spot Pet Pantry

July 27, 2016

For struggling pet owners, providing pet food can be the difference between being able to keep a cherished pet and being forced to surrender them. Often pet owners on fixed, limited incomes or those dependent on food pantries share their own food rations with their pet, which means both human and pet are facing hunger and lack of proper nutrition. Food choices such as tuna and rice are often based on what can be shared with their pet rather than on what are healthiest for their family or their own nutritional needs.

While some local animal shelters have created pet food banks, often pet owners in the most need are unable to access these resources due to transportation, mobility and health issues.  Since partnering with Trinity Charities Inc.  in 2014, we have served over 150 pets from over 100 families through our Food for Spot Pet Pantry on their campus. RedRover brings animals from crisis to care and strengthens the bond between people and animals...a perfect partner to help us keep wanted pets out of shelters and home with the families that love them! This grant will allow us to purchase 5 months worth of pet food so neither pet nor person suffer lack of nutrition.

While we could have gone with a more economical food, it was important to us that we purchase a brand that was high quality, minimizing the potential for adverse reactions and allergies. We partnered with BOGOBowl.com, which operates on the buy one give one concept; as a program “buddy”, pet owners all over the U.S. (including YOU!) can choose our organization to receive a donated bag whenever they buy one bag for their own pet and every bag we purchase through our organization is matched.

Fairy Tail Endings, Inc. awarded $6,000 grant for senior dogs from The Grey Muzzle Organization

July 1,  2016

The Grey Muzzle Organization believes encouraging the rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and care of senior dogs to be hugely important and appreciates the work we are doing in this area. We believe age is not a disease and senior pets that have provided a lifetime of loyalty and companionship are just as deserving of our support.  With the introduction of our Road to Recovery Project outreach iniative in 2014, we are serving more senior, disabled and homebound owners who have senior pets as well. Often their pet is THE reason to get up in the morning.  Our third grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization will fund the more extensive veterinary care for senior dogs in our program keeping them healthy so they can continue to provide emotional support to their owners.

While our mission has traditionally focused on funding the treatment of conditions with a good prognosis so that families can stay together, we've had an increasing number of inquiries from owners with pets in the end stage of disease that can't afford to help end their pet's suffering. We recently created a Rainbow Bridge Fund to assist in the cost of humane euthanasia and cremation and GMO's contribution to this fund will give this  fina gift of a peaceful passing to 5 senior dogs with a terminal prognosis.
