Dr. Erik M. Walker, Vice President
Rhys currently serves as the Office Manager and Veterinary Technician at Vets to YOU!, as well as a technician, advisor and administrative team member at The Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch, Inc., volunteer at Satchel’s Last Resort, Inc. & Buddy’s Feral Cat Clinic. She has devoted over 13 years to the animal shelter/rescue industry in Sarasota.
"I've often thought that I'd live in my car before giving up my pets, but what if they needed care I couldn't afford? With our Florida community suffering one of the highest foreclosure/unemployment rates and senior populations in the country, that is the dilemma so many of our friends and neighbors now face.
Having worked over 13 years in shelters & rescues that take in primarily owner-surrendered pets, my passion has always been helping animals maintain enriched lives while in the shelter environment. Although adoption is a wonderful outcome for these animals, the happiest scenario is finding ways to help people keep their beloved companions instead of having to relinquish them in the first place. Dealing with the pleas of hundreds of pet owners desperate for help to keep their pets made me acutely aware of the demand for pet assistance programs and the gap in services that Fairy Tail Endings, Inc. now fills."
Dr. Walker is a licensed veterinarian and owner of Vets to YOU!, an in-home veterinary services practice. After graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, he served as a general veterinary practitioner in private practices, as well as a volunteer surgeon for Sarasota County’s feral cat spay/neuter initiative, Buddy’s Feral Cat Program, since April, 2010. He also routinely works as a relief veterinarian for several area practices, including Sarasota Veterinary Center and Loving Care Animal Hospital and serves as the Medical Services Director for the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch, Inc. His role requires him to develop and implement the shelter’s medical policies and protocols. He is a strong advocate of preventive medicine with experience in routine and emergency surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, disease and vaccinations. He also assisted the Humane Society of the United States and FEMA in animal rescue and disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Dr. Walker’s experience is instrumental in an advisory capacity, guiding our award recipient decisions to those animals that will benefit most with intervention, especially when a treating veterinarian has not been established for applicants.

Her degree in accounting and business background made her a natural fit for the position of Treasurer. She also has 5 years experience as a Veterinary Technician in both private practices and shelter medicine programs, allowing her to personally bear witness to the compelling need for support services for pet owners under financial hardship. Her contacts and knowledge of the local veterinary industry also aides in our product and service research and determining which applicants will benefit most from our mission. She is currently employed in this capacity at both The Cat Depot of Sarasota, FL and Sarasota Veterinary Emergency Hospital.
